Job Summary:

The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing workplace safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, FDA, and other regulatory standards. This role focuses on minimizing workplace hazards, promoting a culture of safety, and ensuring the well-being of all employees within the beverage manufacturing facility. The Safety Manager will lead safety training, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives to maintain a safe and compliant work environment. The Safety Manager will be expected to spend approximately 20% of their time on the manufacturing floor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance & Safety Programs

  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA, FDA, GMP, and EPA regulations.
  • Ensure the facility complies with all local, state, and federal safety laws.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions.
  • Manage safety documentation, including permits, SDS (Safety Data Sheets), incident reports, and training records.

Training & Employee Engagement

  • Design and conduct safety training programs for new and existing employees, including PPE usage, hazard communication, and emergency response.
  • Lead safety meetings and toolbox talks to reinforce best practices and compliance.
  • Promote a culture of safety through employee engagement, participation in safety committees, and recognition programs.

Risk Assessment & Incident Management

  • Perform hazard analyses and job safety assessments to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, near misses, and injuries, providing detailed reports and implementing corrective actions.
  • Monitor and improve safety processes related to chemical handling, equipment operation, and ergonomic practices.

Emergency Preparedness & Response

  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including fire evacuation, spill containment, and medical emergencies.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and accessibility of safety equipment, such as eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits.
  • Coordinate with local emergency response agencies and ensure employees are trained in emergency protocols.

Continuous Improvement & Leadership

  • Analyze safety data and trends to proactively address potential hazards.
  • Implement safety improvement initiatives and lead change management efforts.
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies during safety audits and inspections.
  • Collaborate with Safety Specialist at CPS on safety related projects and implementations.

Education and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in safety management, preferably in food or beverage manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, FDA, GMP, and environmental safety regulations.
  • Proven experience developing and leading safety programs and initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • OSHA 30-hour or 500 certification (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management software.

Physical Demands

  • Vision, hearing, and speaking to meet performance standard(s)
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods, push, pull, lift, climb, bend, stoop, squat, and use manual dexterity to work with hand tools, machines, etc.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis and move heavier weights using proper equipment

Work Environment

Requires ability to work in an environment that may contain non-toxic fumes, dust, odors, moderate level noise, and temperature and ventilation variations while wearing any appropriate safety and/or protective clean room apparel (i.e.: safety glasses, safety shoes, gloves, hair net, face mask and lab coat/uniform)
