Job Summary We are seeking a full-time Research Associate to work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) on multiple projects related to improving care and policy for older adults with serious illness. This role is hybrid, requiring one day a week onsite, and as needed. The most substantial of these is the HEARD (Hospice Equity for people impacted by Alzheimer's and Related Dementias) Study supported by an National Institute on Aging (NIA) R01 research grant. The project will support the development of evidence-based policy and ethics recommendations to improve hospice care for racial and ethnic minoritized older adults impacted by Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias. Reporting to the Project Director, the Research Associate will work with the team to engage in all stages of the research process to generate evidence that will inform policy recommendations. Activities include representing UCSF and the research team in community outreach and community engagement, supporting engagement with Community Advisory Board (CAB), creating and refining recruitment and data collection materials, recruiting participants, conducting interviews with bereaved caregivers or hospice staff, conducting site visits and observations at hospice organizations, tracking outreach, participation and other project inputs, gathering, organizing and maintaining study data and resources, making project-related purchases, submitting expense reports and invoices, generating white papers, policy briefs, and policy recommendations, supporting a process for engaging partners in refining policy recommendations, conceptualizing and writing manuscripts, oral presentations, and posters, creating or updating newsletters and websites for external audiences, assisting in the development of grant applications, as well as performing other study-related operational/administrative tasks to ensure study and team success. The Research Associate will also support the UCSF Pepper Center Vulnerable Aging Research Core (VARC), including faculty Pepper Scholars and their staff. Tasks may involve the types of activities described above to support a Pepper Scholar's project (with mentorship and oversight from the PI) or consultations and trainings to faculty, trainees, and staff regarding the development of evidence-based policy recommendations to support older adults made vulnerable by medical and social circumstances. In addition, the Research Associate will share resources such as documentation of best practices and example materials to VARC and associated scholars. The ideal candidate would have prior experience in qualitative and mixed methods research. In addition, experience with hospice, palliative care, serious illness, health policy, home health, grief, and work related to health equity and anti-racism. A successful candidate is highly collaborative, mission-driven, highly organized and able to prioritize multiple deadlines and competing tasks. Working with vulnerable participants and data on sensitive topics requires utmost discretion and confidentiality. As this position will support an R01 that will be recruiting Asian, Black, and Latino individuals, candidates who identify as Asian/Black/African American/Latino/ multiracial and ideally are fluent in Chinese / Mandarin/ Cantonese / Spanish are preferred. Additionally, occasional national travel may be required for meetings, conferences, and fieldwork. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000 (Annual Rate). Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques. Excellent word processing and spreadsheet skills Experience and proficiency in policy research methods. Working knowledge and experience with policy research activities, such as outreach, recruitment, interviews, observations, and examination and summary of qualitative or quantitative evidence relevant to policy projects. Training or experience in social sciences field (e.g., public health, sociology, anthropology, health policy). Ability to interface with and work well in a culturally sensitive manner with diverse communities in the context of community-based research. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in a health care or social scientific field (e.g., MPH, MS, MA) Personal, academic, or professional experience around health equity. Personal, academic, or professional experience with hospice, palliative care, end-of-life care, or grief. Experience working in or conducting research within a healthcare setting or experience and familiarity with healthcare or health policy. Experience working in community-engaged research or at a community-based organization. Experience with policy research analysis methods and tools, including software programs. Experience in academic writing, including experiencing in drafting and editing manuscripts, white papers, research reports and grant proposals. Experience in program evaluation and improvement. Identifies as Black/African American/multiracial/Latino/Hispanic/Asian/Native Hawaiian and/or is fluent in Chinese / Mandarin/ Cantonese/Spanish.
