POSITION SUMMARY
As the Principal Platform Architect for the Sony Engagement Platform, you will play a strategic and hands-on role in shaping the technical foundation of a next-generation engagement platform that serves Sony's global ecosystem-including games, music, film, anime, and live experiences.
You will be responsible for setting the architectural vision, ensuring technical excellence, and driving platform-wide standards across distributed systems, APIs, identity, personalization, and developer enablement services. Partnering closely with engineering leadership, product management, and cross-functional stakeholders, you will lead the design and evolution of scalable, secure, and extensible platform services that power seamless user experiences and cross-business integrations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Define and evolve the architectural vision for the Sony Engagement Platform, ensuring it is scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned with long-term business and technical goals.
Design and lead the development of core platform services , including APIs, microservices, identity, personalization, and data pipelines, enabling seamless integration across Sony's global business units.
Drive architectural consistency and technical excellence , establishing best practices for system design, software development, performance optimization, and observability.
Collaborate with cross-functional leaders in engineering, product, security, and operations to translate complex requirements into pragmatic, high-impact architectural solutions.
Evaluate and guide technology decisions , performing trade-off analyses and leading the adoption of emerging tools, frameworks, and patterns as appropriate.
Mentor and influence engineering teams , elevating engineering quality by guiding design reviews, fostering architectural thinking, and advocating for platform-first principles.
Champion platform scalability and efficiency , ensuring the platform can support rapid growth and a wide variety of use cases across Sony's entertainment ecosystem.
Document and communicate architecture standards and decisions , providing clear guidance to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Act as a technical thought leader , representing the platform architecture in strategic planning sessions and helping to shape the overall direction of digital engagement at Sony.
Defines the technical vision, architectural foundation, and engineering standards for a modern, scalable identity platform.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION
Your qualifications and experience should include:
BS Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
10+ years' experience in software development, architecture, programming, design, and analysis.
Expertise in programming languages and technologies including Java, Python, Golang, and infrastructure as code.
Experience delivering high performance, active-active, scalable services (Enterprise Java/J2EE, Web Services, Big Data/NoSQL).
Track record monitoring and analyzing system performance, isolating issues or bottlenecks that could impact reliability, performance, and scalability.
Identifying and mitigating technical risks.
Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL programming (Oracle, Cassandra, Amazon Aurora) including both relational database schema designs and schema-less systems.
Hands-on experience in Amazon Web Services, at enterprise scale is required including familiarity with DynamoDB, Aurora, EC2, and other AWS services.
Experience executing performance testing and/or development efforts for a complex, high throughput system.
Solid understanding of the path(s) customer requests flow from web browser to back-end.
Extensive experience with agile development methodologies and test-driven development processes required.
Experience with open source technology stacks and scripting technologies required.
Ability to handle periodic on-call duty as well as out-of-band requests.
Possess the drive and passion for quality with the ability to inspire, excite and motivate other team members.
Possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills and be able to work with others at all levels, effective at working with geographically remote and culturally diverse teams.

Annual incentive bonus
The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $230,000 to $260,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
