Location Information: Monroe Regional Juvenile Detention Center, 5503 College Rd, 1st floor, Key West, Florida 33040
Minimum Bi-Weekly Rate of Pay: $1,717.42 Bi-Weekly. The position also includes a CAD of $92.30 bi-weekly, for a total bi-weekly rate of pay of $1,809.72.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This is a highly responsible position in the criminal justice system. The employee is expected to perform all duties in an optimum responsible manner, demonstrate leadership by being a positive role model for staff, youth, and the community, and treat all persons with dignity and respect.
Responsible for adhering to agency or facility policies and procedures.
Maintain a safe and secure environment for youth, themselves, and other staff.
Ensure a zero tolerance for detained youth escapes, detained youth abuse, and inappropriate conduct by the staff.
Assist in the operation of a secure detention center, assuring the safe and secure custody of all assigned detained youth.
Ensure compliance with court orders, rules, Departmental policies, and Quality Assurance standards.
Successfully complete training requirements for dispensing medications to youth.
Supervise youth in all activities and maintain control through directives and appropriate levels of verbal or physical intervention.
Inspect facility and packages for contraband.
Train and/or coach employees regarding their duties.
Assume acting supervisor’s role in the absence of the supervisor.
Write reports and prepare required records regarding incidents and detained youth movement.
Use security and emergency equipment to ensure safety.
Complete required checks for detained youth.
Attend and successfully complete all required training.
Maintain a valid Driver License and report changes to the supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.
Ability to prepare and maintain reports and records.
Ability to effectively work with youth, co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
Knowledge of good hygiene and facility policies.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to determine the appropriate level of force.
Ability to observe changes in youth’s behaviors.
Ability to provide constructive feedback to correct behavior.
Knowledge of good housekeeping tasks relative to maintaining sanitary conditions.
SPECIAL NOTES:
All prospective candidates will be subject to a sex offender check, criminal background checks, and pre-employment drug screening. A valid driver’s license is required. Successful candidates must be certified in accordance with State of Florida Department of Juvenile Justice direct care training policy within 180 days of employment.
985.66 Florida Statute Requirement:
Be at least 19 years of age and a high school graduate or its equivalent. Not have been convicted of any felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement.
