LOCATION, CONTACT AND SALARY INFORMATION
Location Information : Miami Dade Regional Juvenile Detention Center, 3300 NW 27th Ave, Miami, Florida 33142
Minimum Bi-Weekly Rate of Pay: $1,717.42 Bi-Weekly. The position also includes a CAD of $92.30 bi-weekly, for a total bi-weekly rate of pay of $1,809.72.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This is a highly responsible position in the criminal justice system. The employee is expected to perform all duties in an optimum responsible manner, demonstrate leadership by being a positive role model for staff, youth, and the community, and treat all persons with dignity and respect.
Responsibilities include:
Adhering to agency or facility policies and procedures.
Maintaining a safe and secure environment for youth and staff.
Assisting in the operation of a secure detention center.
Ensuring compliance with court orders and Departmental policies.
Completing training requirements to maintain proficiency.
Performing duties in Master Control, admissions, releases, and transportation.
Supervising youth in all activities.
Inspecting facility, youth, visitors, and packages for contraband.
Training and coaching employees.
Writing reports and preparing required records.
Using security and emergency equipment.
Completing checks for detained youth.
Maintaining counts as directed.
Attending required meetings.
Maintaining a valid Driver License.
Performing other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
Department policies and procedures for the care, custody, and control of youth.
Facility Operating Procedures.
Safety procedures and conducting strip searches.
Good hygiene and housekeeping tasks.
Skills in:
Recognizing signs of potential suicide or depression.
Addressing issues of youth who are experiencing problems.
Ability to:
Determine appropriate level of use of force.
Provide constructive feedback and use conflict management skills.
Prepare and maintain reports and records.
Communicate effectively.
SPECIAL NOTES:
DJJ Detention facilities operate 24/7/365 and positions require shift schedules. Staff members must be agreeable to working shift schedules, including rotating shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
