Job Description

Job Summary: The inflight Paramedic will assist in the safe in-flight transportation of prisoners. The Paramedic will assist in be considered on-call and must be able to respond within 2 hours to perform the services. Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Use the acceptable medical industry standards to manage each patient's (prisoner) care while in the custody and during the transition of custody.
  • Provide quality medical care to all age groups.
  • Administer medications, procedures and/or treatments in accordance with written medical orders and or verbal orders from appropriate medical direction.
  • In preparation for flight, verify all required medications, equipment, and supplies are available.
  • Maintain all required medical documentation.
  • Assume control of all medical records, medications and required medical equipment to and from appropriate authorities.
  • Provide communicable disease surveillance, immediately notify any potential health threats / hazards to the safety and welfare of the crew and public at large.
  • Coordinate activities with the Aviation Enforcement Officer-In-Charge (AEOIC) in matters of custodial concern.
  • Screen all medical forms and examine other available information to ensure that prisoners are medically stable and appropriately fit to fly.
  • Respond to all medical emergencies (i.e. seizures, chest pain, mental disorder, etc.).
  • Administer prescribed prisoner medications, as necessary.
  • Prepare the prisoners medications and medical documentation for delivery to the receiving official at the appropriate debarkation stop and is prepared to report on any specific incidents, during flight as appropriate.
  • Perform symptom screening as required.
  • Assume responsibility as the primary medical provider of care for all prisoners with stable, unstable, and complex medical conditions during flights.
  • Anticipate and acquire resources needed for routine and unexpected medical incidents, including medical emergencies during flight.
  • Provide health care services of a scope, quality, and quantity consistent with established industry standards.
  • Related tasks as needed.

  • Prepare electronically generated clearly written concise reports.
Education & Experience:
  • Minimum high school graduate.
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a NREMT Paramedic.
  • Have a minimum of five (5) years' experience as an ALS Paramedic.
  • Active National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
  • (NREMT) Paramedic certification (NRP).
  • Active ACLS Certification
  • Maintain proficiency as a NREMT Paramedic.
  • Maintain cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Maintain automatic external defibrillator (AED) certification.
  • Maintain active Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must be a citizen of the United States of America.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be able to provide immediate response within a 2-hour notice period.
  • Be able to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
  • Possess a valid driver's license from your state of residence. Must have a safe driving record for the past 5 years.
  • Possess a valid U.S. Passport. Travel may be required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug tests.
  • Be currently involved in continuous educational training.
  • Be physically able to perform the full range of medical duties without limitation.
  • Be physically able to perform Paramedic duties for an extended period of time.
  • Instructor ratings in ACLS and ITLS (Preferred)
  • Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS/ ITLS) (Preferred)
  • PALS- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (Preferred)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) (Preferred)
