Job Description

Minnesota Children's Museum is dedicated to creating immersive experiences that inspire, educate, and bring joy. The museum is a dynamic and engaging space where children and adults explore, learn, and play together. It provides interactive, hands-on exhibits and programs that stimulate curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. The museum fosters an environment of informal learning, allowing children to discover and learn through play. The Exhibit Graphic Designer is responsible for designing and producing exhibit graphics, from concept to completion, using a range of graphic production processes (computer-based software programs, specialty graphics services, etc.), materials (paper, poly, direct-to-substrate, etc.) and assets (photos and illustrated images, text and others as needed). REPORTS TO: Senior Exhibit Designer SALARY: $62,000.00 annually CLASSIFICATION: Exempt, Full-time SCHEDULE: 40 hours/week hybrid eligible. You are expected to be on-site as needed, at least 2 days of the week in the office. Occasional weekend or evening hours required to support special programs or projects.

MAJOR JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Exhibit Graphic Designer is a core team member on museum project teams, suggesting approaches, presenting graphic concepts, incorporating feedback, designing prototype exhibit graphics (temporary mock-ups for short-term audience testing) and completing final designs. This position also works with the Museum's vendors to manage the production of those graphics, including requesting estimates for outside work on projects as needed, and reviewing produced graphics for imperfections. Working with a museum wide team to develop playful, dynamic graphics that promote museum's learning objectives. Document, share and communicate design progress including project updates, challenges and successes. Work closely and collaboratively with Exhibit Designers and Developers, prop specialists, and the fabrication team in creating exhibit graphics that are an important part of design cohesion. Engage in, and support, a collaborative environment among project team members. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (please highlight the following in resume or cover letter) 2 years of combined experience in formal and/or informal education, work and/or volunteer experience in graphic design or related field. Minimum of 3 years' experience in graphic design. Proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign. Knowledge of diverse materials and production methods. Knowledge of and ability to prepare bid requests for outside vendors. Ability to take concept through completion and into production. IDEAL CANDIDATE (PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS) Minimum of one year in Museum or Museum related field preferred. Ability to work collaboratively with designers and developers in a fast-paced environment. Understand the importance of designing graphics to reach a diverse audience. Experience designing graphics in informal learning environments meant for children, and their caregivers, educators, and other adults. Experience creating engaging graphics tailored for children, from birth-10 years, is preferred.
