Position Summary


Assumes responsibility for identification, development and management of campus-wide operational plans designed to ensure the safety and health of all employees, students, and visitors to the University of Hartford. Develops health and safety plans and projects, conducts safety trainings, investigates accidents and hazards, and recommends corrective actions to reduce and/or eliminate potential risks. Performs periodic comprehensive inspections of the campus and equipment to ensure compliance with OSHA standards. Performs all duties in full support of the University's mission, understanding that the positive and effective execution of these duties are instrumental to the education of the University's students.

Hiring Range
Starting salary is budgeted between $58,024 to $72,000

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates operational plans, procedures and policies at the University of Hartford in an effort to ensure the health and safety of all faculty, staff, students, and visitors to the campus.
  • Oversees and provides guidance in the development, implementation, and maintenance of building manager health and safety operational plans.
  • Leads the development of presentations, trainings, and other health and safety awareness programs. Ensures all trainings meet state and federal guidelines and are reported, as necessary and appropriate.
  • Investigates accidents and hazardous conditions and provides recommendations for implementation of corrective actions/measures. Conducts follow up audits to ensure corrective actions are completed. Responds to safety and health-related inquiries and complaints.
  • Keeps informed of changes in health and safety regulations, including federal, state, and/or local legislation to ensure University compliance.
  • Ensures all safety related documents and records, including but not limited to, the Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDS,) are properly completed, filed, maintained, and/or updated.
  • Conducts and analyzes quality risk assessments in an effort to ensure anticipated training outcomes align with University policies and procedures, rules, and other required regulations. Monitors and inspects the campus facilities and equipment to ensure proper usage and compliance. Researches and recommends health and safety improvements, as appropriate.
  • Collaborates effectively with internal and external constituents on health and safety compliance. Serves as a primary resource for mitigation, preparation, communication, and training.
  • Ensures all documents, including training and communication plans, are up to date and in compliance with established deadlines and other requirements. Serves on internal and external committees, including the Situation Management Team (SMT), as necessary and appropriate.
  • Assists, as appropriate, with compilation of annual reporting statistics as well as submission of reports to the appropriate local, state, federal or other organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
