About the Organization
The UAW-FCA-Ford-General Motors Legal Services Plan is looking for a controller who will provide leadership for all areas of the accounting function. This is a remote position that requires weekly in-person sessions.
This welfare benefit plan provides services to a membership base of more than 525,000 individuals and families. Its mission is to provide high-quality legal service benefits to eligible members:
Office consultation on certain legal matters
A low-cost referral to a cooperating attorney
Social Security disability services for employees and retirees.
About the Controller\CFO Position
The Controller oversees all accounting operations of an organization that has $14m+ annual revenues as a 501.c.9 VEBA. This executive position requires proven, hands-on experience in end-to-end accounting management, team management, and a strong understanding of both nonprofit accounting and US GAAP accounting. This position includes exercising independent judgment to accomplish job duties, implementing global process improvements, and being proactive at keeping processes moving forward.
The Controller provides overall leadership for all areas of the accounting function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, month-end close, payroll, general ledger, journal entries, audit support, administrative support, etc. This role exercises responsibility for the accuracy of financial data and reports and promotes the safeguarding of the organization’s assets through the maintenance of adequate internal controls. This position reports to the Director\CEO of the organization and to the Board of Trustees.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in accounting
Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.
Minimum 5+ years of accounting experience,
Minimum 2+ years as a manager within the accounting or finance function,
Excellent knowledge of US GAAP
Experience in implementing and managing the month-end close process for a non-profit organization.
Strong experience with general ledger, accounts payable, nonprofit revenue recognition, accounts receivable, payroll, and banking required.
Ability to serve as the primary executive for audit support.
Ability to translate financial concepts to individuals at all levels in the organization – including non-finance colleagues.
Customer-oriented, positive attitude
Ability to serve as the chief risk and ERISA Compliance officer.
Ability to prepare yearly budgets and produce forecasts as requested for forward-looking projections.
