The Role: Advertising, Marketing & Promotions Associate or Counsel | Washington, D.C.
We are seeking an experienced Advertising, Marketing & Promotions Associate or Counsel with at least seven years of relevant experience to join a prestigious international law firm in its Washington, D.C., office. This position offers an exciting opportunity to provide legal counsel on sophisticated advertising and marketing law matters for high-profile clients in a collaborative and dynamic environment.

In this position, you will:

• Draft and negotiate advertising-related agreements, including influencer, celebrity endorsement, sponsorship, ad agency, and media buying contracts.
• Review advertising content to ensure compliance with laws related to false advertising, claim substantiation, intellectual property, and publicity rights.
• Counsel clients on compliance for contests, sweepstakes, subscription programs, and loyalty/rewards programs.
• Provide legal advice on consumer protection and marketing issues across diverse industries.
• Defend clients against allegations of false advertising, unfair competition, and other regulatory challenges.
• Stay updated on emerging trends and legal developments in advertising and consumer protection law.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Experience and Expertise

• Years of Practice: Minimum of 7 years of experience in advertising law, consumer protection, and marketing transactions.
• Substantive Knowledge: Expertise in drafting agreements, compliance counseling, and dispute resolution.
• Preferred Background: Experience with false advertising, unfair competition, and National Advertising Division disputes is advantageous.

Educational Credentials

• Juris Doctor (JD): Degree from an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials.
• Bar Membership: Active D.C. bar license or eligibility to waive in.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to collaborate effectively in team environments.
• Exceptional legal research, writing, and oral communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and meet deadlines.
• Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills for complex legal challenges.
